Course abstract

The aim of the study course is to provide a set of practical skills in digital control machine tool management, preparation of CNC control programs. Practice is carried out in the laboratories of the Motor Vehicle Institute. Students are assigned by the order of the Rector and obey all the rules of the study process. Students learn the first skills in CNC turning and milling. Students strengthen their first skills in turning, milling and learn the basics of technological process development in turning and milling.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

1. Knowledge - knows the technical characteristics, construction and equipment of CNC working machines - report on the practice;
2. Skills - know the technical parameters of the CNC machine, its structure, the necessary tools and application possibilities - test;

3. Competence - able to choose and justify the conformity of production machinery to production conditions and production volume - test.

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Safety at work with CNC machine tools. Work safety warning signs on their importance and positioning on CNC machine - 4h;
2. Coordinate axes and reference systems - 4h;
3. The contents of the CNC program, the base of the workpiece, base selection - 4h;
4. The importance of G and M codes for the development of a digital control program - 4h;
5. Creation of lines and curves drills and contours. Use of basic cycles - 4h;
6. Test – The meaning of the G and M codes of the control program – 1h;
7. Simulated program and program correction - 4h;

9. Preparation of a digital-controlled CNC machine-tool for a technological process - 4h;

10. Test – Creation of a control program for the given detail – 1h.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Examination type - test with a mark. The assessment of the test consists of: report on the practice; quality of completion of the practice program; answer questions about the work to be done in practice.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Create a freely chosen part manufacturing technology and numerical control processing program - 6h.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The assessment of the test depends on the quality of the task prepared at the end of the practice. Additional assessment can be obtained by making the part described in the terms of reference.
