The internship combines observation and design develop methodology. During the design practice students as observers familiarize with the product designer's profession, the work of applied arts studio and cultural centre, learn experience in the management, develop analytical skills.
• Knowledge: a student knows the theory, types and functions of design creation, understands the significance of the observation skills of the product design process and practical activities at work. A student analyses the work of designer, manager of the applied arts studio and cultural centre and carries out his observation analysis. He/she understands the organization and management and professional standards.
• Skills: a student is able to analyze design samples, products, development concept, to spot and analyze different situations in the design procedur
• Competence: students are able to observe and analyze different situations related to design creation, understand process of the development of product design, are competent to model and organize the development process and documentation.e.
Full time intramural studies:
1 Practice course - 2 during the semester.
2 Selection and coordination of the place of practice.
3 Get acquainted with the diversity of design products, types of design
4 Observe and analyze the design, product, development and creation process. Gather the necessary information.
5 To gain insight into the activities of Latvian designers, to analyze the product development process from the perspective of entrepreneurs.
6 Product design and its development process, stages. Evaluation of material and technical base, selection, justification.
7 Capture and evaluate design creation approaches in the chosen company. Artistic, handicraft.
8 Regular consultations with practice managers.
9 Detailed presentation of practice tasks in the practice diary. Develops a practice report in accordance with the requirements.
10 Submitting a practice report to IMI. Practice presentation preparation, report presentation.
Part time extramural studies:
All topics specified for full time studies are accomplished
Evaluation of the representation of practice tasks. Submission of a practice diary to IMI, its evaluation. Evaluation of the report presentation.
Collection of materials about the internship place, internship product design exhibition process, reflection of the work of the designer and the intern.
Evaluation of the presentation of the internship tasks. Submission of the internship diary to IMI, its evaluation. Evaluation of the report presentation. Successfully evaluated practice report and presentation.
