Course abstract

Students acquire classification, physical - mechanical properties, structure, application of construction, tools and special materials. They get to know the theory of alloys, iron - carbon condition diagram, thermal treatment theory and technology, non - ferrous metals and alloys, composite materials, tool materials, basics of welding, principles of selection the materials and new materials.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge – Student knows the properties of materials, thermal processing and application of construction and tool materials.
The level of knowledge is determined by evaluating the student's theoretical basis for the topic of laboratory work.
• Skills – Student are able to choose materials for the production of parts and tools, are able to apply the LVS standard terms.
The skill level is determined by evaluating the accuracy and quality of the Laboratory's work and home work.
• Competence - is able to apply the acquired knowledge about the properties, marking and application of materials and tools of mechanical engineering.
Competence is determined by evaluating student work during laboratory work and examination.

Requirements for awarding credit points

• Laboratory work that is must be carried out and defended. They must be evaluated by a mark.
• All homework must be submitted and credited with a mark;
• Must attend in final exam.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

• The given tasks in the laboratory work must be complete independently, in accordance with the conditions specified in the laboratory work.
• Theoretical justification of the solution to laboratory work takes place after its completion, during laboratory work.
• House works must be completed independently and must be submitted in the end of next lecture.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

• The level of knowledge is determined by:
Knowledge of terms, explanation of definitions, knowledge of techniques, understanding of regularities.
• The skill level is determined by:
Ability to operate with knowledge, skills to analyze and predict.
• Competence level:
Level of competence is determined using summative evaluation by evaluating laboratory works and home works.
