Course abstract

The study course is intended to start elaboration of the doctoral thesis including preparation of the title, aim and tasks of the doctoral thesis, preparation of the research work plan, identification of sources of scientific literature and preliminary analysis. After the initial analysis of literature sources, doctoral students will be able to draw conclusions about the need for additional information to achieve the tasks set in the doctoral thesis.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge:
- knows and understands the current directions of research in the chosen field and sub-field of science;
- knows and understands the relevant literature sources for the implementation of the research;
- knows the approaches applied in research, research opportunities and limitations.
Evaluation - preparation of the title, aim and tasks of the doctoral thesis, selection of appropriate scientific literature.
Skills:
- is able to prepare of the research work plan;
- is able to select and apply research methods relevant for their research;
- is able to identify the types of literature needed for the research, their availability and content (library resources, databases, scientific publications, research reports);
- is able to analyze the information available in literature sources collected.
Evaluation - the research work plan is prepared, types and number of selected literature sources.
Competences:
- independently identifies the sources of information needed for research activities.
Evaluation - discussion with the supervisor.

Course Content(Calendar)

The doctoral student independently performs:
1. Preparation of the title, aim and tasks of the doctoral thesis.
2. Development of the research work plan.
3. Identification of literature sources necessary for elaboration of the doctoral thesis and compilation of the list of references.
4. Studies and analysis of the information available in the selected sources of literature.
5. Preparation of the overview on the results obtained in literature studies.
6. Submission of the list of references and overview to the supervisor.

Requirements for awarding credit points

The title, aim and tasks of the doctoral thesis, research work plan and literature sources studied are discussed with the supervisor of the doctoral thesis.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

The doctoral student independently performs the tasks defined in the course plan by consulting with the supervisor.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The title, aim and tasks of the doctoral thesis have been prepared, the research work plan has been developed, the overview of scientific literature studies has been created consisting of at least 40 literature sources.
