Presentation of Research Results II

Course abstract

The aim of this study course is to prepare doctoral students for independent presentation of research results at international scientific conferences, seminars, congresses, symposia held in Latvia or abroad, which involves gathering, analysis and evaluation the research results obtained, preparation of presentations or posters, giving speeches, answering questions and participating in discussions.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge:
- knows and understands the current directions of research in the chosen field and sub-field of science;
- manages the research methods relevant to the topic of the thesis;
- knows the requirements defined by the organizers of selected international scientific conferences, seminars, congresses and symposia for the preparation of presentations and posters.
Evaluation – the plan for a presentation or poster is prepared.
Skills:
- able to summarize, analyze, and critically evaluate research results;
- knows how to apply different computer software to prepare presentations and posters;
- able to speak and communicate with Latvian and foreign researchers about the content of presentations or posters.
Evaluation – the number of presentations given at international scientific conferences, seminars, congresses, symposia.
Competencies:
- independently conducts research, evaluates research results and prepares presentations or posters.
Evaluation – discussion with the supervisor.

Course Content(Calendar)

Doctoral students independently:
1. Collect, analyze and evaluate the research results.
2. Prepare presentations or posters.
3. Give presentations or posters at international scientific conferences, seminars, congresses and symposia in Latvia or abroad.

Requirements for awarding credit points

The number of presentations relevant to the study course taking into consideration the following evaluation:
- Oral presentation at international scientific conferences, seminars, congresses, symposia (abroad) - 5 CP;
- Poster presentation at international scientific conferences, seminars, congresses, symposia (abroad) - 3 CP;
- Oral presentation at international scientific conferences, seminars, congresses, symposia (in Latvia) - 3 CP;
- Poster presentation at international scientific conferences, seminars, congresses, symposia (in Latvia) - 2 CP;
- Presentation at scientific practical conference (in Latvia or abroad) - 2 CP.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Doctoral students independently collect, analyze and evaluate the research results, prepare presentations or posters and give presentations or present posters at international scientific conferences, seminars, congresses and symposia in Latvia or abroad by consulting with the supervisor.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

In accordance with the amount of the study course, the required number of credit points is obtained – the research results are presented at selected international scientific conferences, seminars, congresses, symposia in Latvia or abroad.
