Course abstract

Small Animal Internal Medicine deals with diseases of organ systems: Cardiovascular disorders, Respiratory Disorders, Gastrointestinal disorders, Genitourinary disorders, Endocrine and metabolic disorders, Dermatological disorders, basics of Ophthalmology, Emergencies and critical care in the small animal (dogs and cats) practice. Students acquire knowledges about the etiology of diseases, pathogenesis, clinical signs, the use of different diagnostic methods and treatment possibilities.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge: basic knowledge about diseases of different organ systems, clinical signs, diagnostic tools and treatment – 6 tests
Skills of getting anamnesis, evaluating of the clinical status of animal and choosing the appropriate diagnostic methods depending from clinical signs – independent works
Competence of diagnosing diseases and determing the appropriate treatment plan – independent works

1. Respiratory tract diseases – 6 h lectures

Requirements for awarding credit points

Successfully completed six tests make up the final evaluation-formal test.
Absence of lectures and practical works makes up not more than 30% of the total number of lessons. If unjustifiably missed lectures and laboratory works are more than 30% of the total number of lessons, then the course must be repeated.

Students must read provided articles about suggested themes and get deeper knowledge in other information sources

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Student skills are assessed in accordance with the procedures specified in the tasks of the laboratory works.
The study course tests are evaluated in accordance with the criteria of the 10 point system scale indicated in the LBTU Study Regulations.
To get the final test, all tests must be successfully completed and independent/home works must be done.
