Course abstract

Organizational psychology and management examines theoretical and practical aspects of organization management activities, principles and perfection of potentialities, as well as interpersonal communication in organization. In the course the role of manager in managing processes is analyzed, psychological aspects of group and team building is considered, communication in organization, employee motivation as increaser of work effectiveness is analysed.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

1. Knowledge: be able to explain basic concepts of organizational psychology and management, to describe the environment and functions of organization management; to identify the factors influencing the organization; to define effective communication in the organization and charisma elements, to characterize conflicts and their solution tactics, to explain team building principles – two quizzes.
2. Skills: analyse internal and external processes of organizations and make decisions according to change of situation; analyse management situations by using different cognitions of theoretical schools; work in a team/group and individually – practical works.

3. Competence: to deal with problems make decisions and foresee development in different situations of organization; able to present one of the course themes explaining relationships - two independent works.

1. The nature of management. Leadership and management, and functions. Cultural values and their influence on management in world regions - 3 h. (lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
2. Principles of organizational functioning. Organization as a system. Characteristics of the organization's internal and external environment - 3 h. (lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
3. Personality of the manager. Power and its manifestations. Subjects of the management process. Management styles 3 h. (lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
4. Nature and barriers of communication. Leadership. Theories of leadership. Emotional intelligence. Authority, its types. Charisma – 3 h.(lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
5. An individual in the organization. Psychological and sociopsychological characteristics of individual types. Effects of neuroplasticity and brain chemicals on personality. (lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
6. Organization as a group. Group types. Psychological processes and social phenomena characterizing groups. Team work. Psychological microclimate. Conditions for creating a favorable psychological environment in the organization - 3 h. (lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
7. Psychological microclimate. Conditions for creating a favorable psychological environment in the organization - 2 h. (lecture 1 h, practical 1 h)
8. Work motives and motivation theories. Group motivation – 3 h. (lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h) 9. Communication models in the organization, its impact on interpersonal relations. Mechanisms of mutual perception and understanding between people. Non-verbal communication - 3 h. (lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
10. Planning as a management function. Theoretical aspects of decision making and importance in planning. Planning methods. Strategic plans. (lecture 1.5h, practical 1.5h)
11. Conflicts in the organization and tactics and strategies for solving them. Mobbing and bossing. Professional stress and its management – 3 h. .(lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
12. Motivation as a management function. The nature and evolution of motivation. Modern methods of motivation - 3 h. .(lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
13. Principles of information and work coordination. Remote work opportunities in the organization. Time management and procrastination – 3 h. (lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
14. Principles of work organization, delegation of duties. 4 Impact of ID and artificial intelligence on the work of organizations – 3 h. (lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)
15. Purpose and necessity of control. Control functions and role in management – 3 h. (lecture 1.5 h, practical 1.5 h)

Requirements for awarding credit points

80% lecture attendance, successful evaluation of two quizes, two independent works and practical works.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

The first independent work. Present one of the course themes explaining relationships (in front of the audience). A study on the environment of organisation and the functions of management.
The second independent work. Analysis of the observed situation with a purpose to demonstrante a deeper understanding of the situation develpment, management peculiarities and co-operation with subordinates.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The assessment of the study course test with a mark depends on the cumulative evaluation of two quizes, two independent works and practical works.
Quizes are assessed with a successful mark if at least 50% of the questions have been correctly answered.
The assessment of two independent works and practical works take place in accordance with the criteria laid down there in.
The test mark is the arithmetic mean among quizes, independent and practical works assessments.
