Course abstract

The aim of the study course: to provide with an idea and knowledge about higher education, the study process and the study environment at the university and faculty, helping to successfully start studies, questions about the content of the Applied Energy study program and the expected study results are presented. As part of the course, a field trip to LBTU Teaching and research farm Ltd "Vecauce" is implemented. The purpose of the electrical safety section is to acquire knowledge about the effect of current on the human body, first aid, technical operating rules for electrical equipment, electrical safety rules for working with electrical equipment, and other regulations governing electrical safety, which are also important when working with electrical equipment in the further study process. The section has been developed in compliance with the requirements of the Energy Standard of Latvia.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Requirements for awarding credit points

Test with a mark.
Three tests about electrical safety have to be passed and two independent works and an essay on impressions in the first semester of studies must be included.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Students independently prepare for tests and perform independent tasks, write an essay.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Each test in electrical safety consists of 15 questions with 4 possible answers. To pass the test, the number of correct answers must be at least 70% of the total. The overall grade depends on the grade obtained in the three independent works and on the essay, as well as on the attendance of classes.
