Course abstract

The characteristic of genetic resources, its collection, preserving, role in the plant breeding. The genetic structure, variability of population. The strategy and methods of the plant breeding: selection, hybridization, mutation, polyploidy, heterosis, CMS. The tissue culture and phenotypic, protein and molecular markers in the plant breeding. Plant breeding for yield increasing, based on morphological and anatomical structure of plant, on correlative analyses and plant ideotype. The breeding methodology for resistance to diseases.Breeding schemes. Data analysis in plant breeding.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Doctoral students will get extended knowledge in theoretical and practical aspects of plant breeding, methods of plant breeding, breeding schemes, possibilities to create varieties with specific traits values.
Doctoral students are able for practical planning of breeding scheme and its realization. Students are able to distinguish what kind of breeding method is needed. Doctoral students are able to discuss problems of plant breeding branch.
As result students are competent independently work in the sphere of plant breeding, to occupy academic positions in LUA, as well as to as well as to continue self education according the progress of science and technology.
