Course abstract

The course provides students with necessary knowledge of and skills in entrepreneurship and an understanding of the internal and the external environment for an enterprise. The course focuses on assessing entrepreneurship and identifying and analysing risks for the entrepreneurship. The course provides students with skills to use available entrepreneurship resources and an understanding of the role of innovation in entrepreneurship.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge
1. Students will be able to: demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the substance and concepts of entrepreneurship – independent work.
2. Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the organisational structure and functions of an enterprise – test.
Professional skills
1. Independently use theory on entrepreneurship – multiple choice test.
2. Participate in setting goals for an enterprise – practical assignments, group work.
3. Responsibly organise and manage work at an enterprise – practical assignments.
Soft skills
1. Generally, explain and discuss the operation of an enterprise – discussions in classes.
2. Generally, substantiate and draw conclusions on entrepreneurship–related matters as well as come up with solutions – practical assignments.
Competence
1. Independently define and critically analyse entrepreneurship–related matters and opportunities – examination.

2. Justify the decisions made and, if necessary, do an additional analysis – tests, practical assignments.

1. The essence of entrepreneurship (lecture – 1 hour, practical task – 1 hour).
2. Types of entrepreneurship. Areas and types of entrepreneurship (lecture – 1 hour, practical task – 1 hour).
3. Types of businesses. Areas and types of business (lecture – 2 hours, practical task – 2 hours).
4. Forms of entrepreneurship (lecture – 2 hours, practical task – 1 hour).
5. Forms of commercial activity (lecture – 1 hour, practical task – 2 hours).
6. Entrepreneurship environment (lecture – 1 hour, practical task – 2 hours).
7. Entrepreneurship functions and quality management (lecture – 1 hour, practical task – 1 hour).
8. Micro, small and medium entrepreneurship (lecture – 1 hour, practical task – 1 hour).
9. Company life cycle (lecture – 1 hour, practical task – 1 hour).
10. Starting an entrepreneurship, starting a company (lecture – 1 hour, practical task – 1 hour).
11. Company reorganization, bankruptcy (lecture – 2 hours, practical task – 1 hour).
12. Risk factor in entrepreneurship (lecture – 1 hour, practical task – 1 hour).

13. Innovations in entrepreneurship (lecture – 1 hour, practical task – 1 hour).

Requirements for awarding credit points

At the end the course students have to pass an examination on the topics acquired during the course.
During the study course students have to pass 2 tests (basic concepts and substance of and the environment for entrepreneurship and kinds of entrepreneurship, business).
Students must develop all practical assignments.
The students have to develop an independent work with presentation – assurance of the quality of a good or a service; opportunities for innovation. Presentation – up to 10 minutes.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

1. Multiple choice test: basic concepts and substance of and the environment for entrepreneurship – 12 scores.
2. Test: kinds of entrepreneurship, business – 12 scores.
3. Practical assignments: all the topics – 12 scores.
4. Independent work with a presentation: assurance of the quality of a good or a service; opportunities for innovation – 14 scores.
5. Examination: all the topics – 50 scores.

A score of 10 is equal to one point on a 10-point marking scale.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The assessment of the study course depends on the assessment of independent work, tests and examination – a score of 10 is equal to one point on a 1-point marking scale.
Assignments are assessed in accordance with the assessment procedure established in the assignment.
