Course abstract

In this study course students will gain practical knowledge about design of reinforced concrete construction. Students will improve their skills in reinforcement calculation, presenting the results in the project drawings, application of rules for detailing and durability.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge: Studens will be able to determinate first skeches for reinforced concre structure elements and will be able no notice areas were need to integrate reinforcement – defence of the course project.
Skill: Students will gain skills to use section analysis and structural analysis in the design of reinforced concrete structures – defence of the course project.
Competence: Students will gain skills to present their design result in drawings and defend them orally – defence of the course project.

Course Content(Calendar)

1 Predesign of the assigned building’s main structures.
2 Loads and load combinations.
3 Internal forces for slabs, beams, columns.
4 Design of ceiling slab.
5 Design of beams.
6 Design of a column or a wall.
7 Design of column and wall footings.
8 Detailing rules.
9 Drawings.
10 Defence of the course project.

Requirements for awarding credit points

The course is passed when the course project is prepared and successfully defended.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Course project must be prepared independently outside the classes of this course. The progress of the design process must be presented during consultation regularly.
Students get an individual task for course project including initial data for design

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The grade depends on the quality of Course project and the level of knowledge presented during the defence. In addition the discipline of the student is taken into account. The maximum grade is possible only for those who present the progress of their work on regular bases (every week) during the whole semester. If the work is first presented fully finished only at end of the semester, the maximum grade is 8.
Students can increase their grades by 1 or 2 points (up to 9 or 10) by submitting some extra calculations or drawings.
