The course provides an overview of the policies and functional areas of human resource management with practical examples of the implementation of procedures. The course provides students with knowledge and skills on how to organise and document the human resources management process in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia and the general principles of human resources management.
The aim of the course is to provide students with theoretical and empirical knowledge of the basic principles of the human resources management process in order to facilitate the competence necessary for the performance of their professional duties and tasks.

Full-time study:
1. Basic HRM terms and processes. The role of human resource management in the management process of companies in the sector. Key guidelines for goal-oriented HRM. Factors influencing the HRM process. Human resources and personnel management in the 21st century. Trends. Traditional and modern human resource management. (2 hours)
2. Human resources policy in the company. Human resources policy makers. The main tasks of human resources policy. Relationship between HR policy and the company's strategy for sustainable development and sustainability. Characteristics and trends of human resources policies in the sector. (2 hours)
3. Functional areas of human resources management, their organisation, sequence and necessity. Levels of human resources management: operational, tactical and strategic management. Competence of the human resources manager. Employee profile. (2 hours)
4. The legal framework governing human resources management. Legal framework for employment relations. (2 hours)
5. Human resources planning. Objective of human resources planning. Tasks of human resources planning. Information support for personnel planning. Forecasting internal and external supply. (2 hours)
6. Finding and attracting human resources. Evaluation of resources for personnel search. Selection of search methods. Job offer (advertisement), its preparation. Job advertisement placement options. Specifics of publishing an advertisement. Current developments in recruitment in the sector. (2 hours)
7. Human resources selection process. The purpose of recruitment. Recruitment scheme. Staff selection tools. Methods of selection and evaluation of personnel. Defining and schematising evaluation criteria. Job application documents, their presentation and evaluation. (2 hours)
8. Conducting job interviews and interviews. Interview objectives. Interview strategies. Types of interviews. Methods and practices of job interviews. Developing interview questions. Structure of the job interview. Managing and planning the job interview process. Recommendations for a successful interview. Typical mistakes during a job interview. Interview tactics. 12. Human resources management tools (occupational standard, occupational classification, job descriptions, qualification categories, training needs analysis, etc.). (2 hours)
13. Job evaluation. Job description and competency model. Methods of competence assessment: interviews, tests, role-plays, document analysis. Methods of staff training and staff development. "Competence management and talent management. (2 hours)
14. Motivation and its role in HRM. Theories of needs. Types and evaluation of motivation systems. Elements of motivation. Development of the motivation system. (2 hours)
15. Termination of employment. Termination of employment. Periods of notice. Grounds for termination of employment. Other grounds for termination of employment. (2 hours)
16. Insights into change management, key features and necessity of change management. (2 hours)

All the topics specified for full-time full-time are covered, but the number of contact hours is 1/2 of the specified number of hours.

The course grade depends on the marks of the independent work, the test and the exam - 10 points are 1 mark. Independent works and tests are assessed in accordance with the assessment procedure specified in the works.
