MašZ3036 [GMAS3036] Metal Processing Technology and Design I
The aim of course is to provide set of practical skills of casting and forging in machinery engineering; processing types and products; Welding process and equipment for electrical, gas and pressure welding, technology and materials, theory of material cutting process; metal cutting machinery, equipment, tools and technology.
1. Know the technological processes of metals casting, equipment and tools — test nr. I and laboratory works;
2. To know the welding processes, equipment, tools and the technical parameters: tests nr. II and laboratory works.
3. Able to apply the most appropriate metalworking technology for work - practical works.
Full time intramural studies:
LECTURES:
1.Production of castings. General information about casting production. Importance of castings in the engineering industry. Production of castings in moulding moulds. Building materials, equipment and technology – 1hour;
2.The latest types of casting production: shell molding, evaporative-pattern casting, die casting and pressure die casting – 1hour;
3.Theoretical fundamentals of metal forging. Plastic deformation. Blank heating for metal forging. Unwanted effects in heating. Heating temperature interval – 1hour;
4.Technological processes of metal forging: rolling, stretching and punching. – 1hour;
5.Production of forging. Free forging, work tools, equipment and technology. Metal volume punching and sheet stamping – 1hour;
6.Test – Casting and forging – 1hour;
7.Metal welding. Basics of welded joints. Welding joints and seams – 1hour;
8.Possibility of metal welding and its criteria – 1hour;
9.Various metal welding technology and seams creating peculiarity – 1hour;
10.Welding in protective gases. MIG/MAG and TIG process. Impacts and choices of gas. Welding wire – 1hour;
11.Welding power sources, their external curves. Selection and use of power sources – 1hour;
12.Gas welding process. Structure and types of gas flame. Gas welding gas and technology – 1hour;
13.Test – Metal welding – 1hour;
14.Thermal cutting of metals with plasma – 1hour;
15.Thermal cutting of metals with a laser beam – 1hour;
16.Metal soldering, soldering materials and technology – 1hour.
LABORATORY WORKS:
1.Design and formation of castings – 4 hours;
2.Metal forging – 3 hours;
3.Manual metal arc welding – 3 hours;
4.Gas metal arc welding – 3 hours;
5.Gas welding – 3 hours.
PRACTICAL WORKS:
1.Casting – 7 hours;
2.Forging process – 6 hours;
3.MMA welding process – 6 hours;
4.MIG welding process – 6 hours;
5.TIG welding process – 7 hours.
Part time extramural studies:
All topics specified for full time studies are accomplished, but the number of contact hours is one half of the number specified in the calendar.
Test type - exam. All tests work, laboratory work must be carried out. Delayed lectures shall not exceed 20% of the total.
Preparation for 2 tests and laboratory works. – 30 hours.
Homework No 1. Describe the types of metal casting (submit an electronic or written version) – 34 hours; Homework No 2. Describe the types of metal welding (submit an electronic or written version) – 34 hours.
Students who have at least assessment 7 in this course of study. The final examination test may not write, and the test rating is compared with the test assessment.
