Study course is intended to give an insight in principles and technical engineering solutions of water management. The course includes sustainable management of water resources and providing of sanitary safe and economically reasonable centralized water supply in rural and urban areas. The most widely used methods for purifying of drinking water will be passed, paying a special attention to current topicalities of Latvia.
As a result of this study course the students will have • knowledge of suitable water sources for obtaining requirable water amount. The knowledge of water treatment in accordance with drinking water quality requirements will include water treatment methods such as iron removal, softening and disinfection.
• The study course will provide the skills to technically solve water supply issues by providing engineering solutions for the needs of the consumer. • Students will be competent to solve problems associated with methods for improving the water quality at the desirable level.
1. Sources of drinking water; Groundwater and surface water (2h)
2. Options of sources for water supply; 1. practical work (2h)
3. Ouality requirements for drinking water (2h)

Part time extramural studies:
All topics specified for full time studies are accomplished, but the number of contact hours is one half of the number
specified in the calendar
Independently developed practical works and successfully written final test on the topic of the lectures.
The student learns the theoretical part by participating in lectures and independently studying the recommended literature. The acquired theoretical knowledge is used for the final exam at the end of the theoretical part. In the final exam, the student successfully passes the test in writing by answering the questions discussed in the lectures.
The student learns the practical part by independently completing seven thematically related practical works. Completed practical works are submitted for correction no later than the deadlines indicated in the e-studies within the semester and after obtaining a successful evaluation, they defend it orally, answering the lecturer's questions and discussing the chosen solutions.
The test for the theoretical part is organized in writing in the e-study environment and consists of 20 questions. To pass the test, at least 50% (10 questions) have to be answered correctly.
The practical work is evaluated individually on a 10-point scale, and the evaluation includes the developed solution and its defense.
The final assessment in the study course is calculated as the average grade of the assessment of the theoretical part and the average assessment of the practical works.
