Course abstract

Intramural practice. During rotations, students shadow physicians at teaching hospital and farms, have access to patients, and gain valuable hands-on experience.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledges: of laboratorial tests and diagnostic imaging, most common diseases etiology, pathogenesis and treatment. Assessment – tests in practice all blocks.
Skills: to do clinical and diagnostic imaging examinations, set diagnosis, treatment and recommendations. Assessment – evaluating practical work.

Competence: select correct diagnostic tests and treatment, herd health evaluation. Assessment – tests in practice all blocks and evaluating a practical work.

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Small animal internal medicine. Three weeks. Theoretical lessons, practical works, test, clinical case analysis.
2. Small animal surgery. Three weeks. Theoretical lessons, practical works, test, clinical case analysis.
3. Equine medicine. Three weeks. Theoretical lessons, practical works, test, clinical case analysis.
4. Large animal medicine. Three weeks. Theoretical lessons, practical works, test, clinical case analysis.
5. Mobile clinic. Three weeks. Theoretical lessons, practical works, test, clinical case analysis.
6. Patological examination. Three weeks. Theoretical lessons, practical works, test, case analysis.

7. Clinical rotation practice final work. Two weeks.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Pass all requirements in all clinical rotation practice blocks and defended final work.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Student must write a final thesis – clinical case analysis or research project. Student is allowed not to write a thesis, if research project results are published or accepted for publication in Scopus/Web of Science indexed journal. Final thesis must be prepared according to the methodological guidelines. In the last week of practice, all students have to defence the thesis or published research results. At least one week before defence, thesis or article must be submitted to reviewer.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Study course tests and thesis are evaluated in accordance with the criteria of the 10 point system scale indicated in the LLU Study Regulations.
To get a final grade of Clinical rotation practice student must pass all tests and defence thesis. Final grade consists of average mark of all practice rotation blocks and thesis mark (50% of final grade). Student gets an extra mark, if research results have been presented at the LLU or another international scientific conference.
