Course abstract

During the research practice, the master student gets acquainted with the principles of food control and supervision. as far as possible, obtain the research material necessary for scientific research.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge about the fundamentals of food control and monitoring - presentation of practice report;
Skills to identify critical points in the food chain enterprises and get the samples according to the scientific theme – practice report;
Competence to establish a scheme for the scientific work – practice report.

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Getting acquainted with the place of practice, working conditions. Duties of food inspectors of the Food and Veterinary Service of the Republic of Latvia, inspection procedures of companies involved in the food chain.
2. Getting acquainted with the supervisor of the internship place, agenda, regulations, signing of the internship agreement.
3. Inspection of food businesses under the supervision of food inspectors. performance of work planned within the framework of practice;
4. Getting acquainted with the regulatory enactments of the Republic of Latvia and the European Union in food chain control.
5. Collection, preparation and sending of food samples for further laboratory examination. 6. Preparation of practice report, acquisition of material necessary for master's thesis.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Test with mark.
Master students in the practice report describe obtained knowledge and skills on the principles of food control and monitoring, as well as the study scheme developed for the master's thesis (up to 20 pages). The work must be submitted and defended within the deadline set by the course supervisor. After submitting the written form of the report, it should be presented orally (up to 10 minutes).

Studies of scientific literature.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Practice report (written and presentation forms) are evaluated in accordance with the criteria of the 10 point system scale indicated in the LLU Study Regulations.
