1. Introduction to operative surgery – lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
2. Preparation of the patient and surgeon, fixation, infusions and injections - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
3. Basics of anaesthesia - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
4. Trauma, bleeding, inflammation - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours. First test (Topics 1.-3.)
5. Large animal fixation, injections and preparation for surgery - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
6. Horse fixation, injections and preparation for surgery - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
7. Infection, prevention of infection - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
8. Wounds, wound examination, healing - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
9. Tissue approximation, suture materials and needles - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours. Second test (Topics 4.-8.)
10. Interrupted skin – muscle sutures - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
11. Continuous skin – muscle sutures - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
12. Male dog and cat castration/neuter -lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours. Third test (Topics 9.-11.)
13. Female dog and cat castration/spay - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
14. Tumours - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours
15. Contusions, thermal tissue damage - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours.

16. Skin diseases and plastic surgery - lecture is one academic hour, practical lesson is two academic hours. Fourth test (Topics 12.-15.)

Requirements for awarding credit points

No more than 2 missed lectures or practicals in one semester. Successful pass of 4 theoretical tests and witnter session test which consists of theoretical and practical part – suture demonstration on simulator, calculations or other practical skills presented in the course curriculum. Maximum attempts for one test is three times to be a candidate for cumulative exam in second semester of the course. Successfuly written tests cannot be retaken.

Completing the course requirements results in a "pass" grade.
