Course abstract

During their practice placements, students strengthen their theoretical knowledge and acquire practical skills in the field of business and management and specific competences in line with the practice curriculum

Learning outcomes and their assessment

1. Students will be able to: demonstrate the knowledge of how to apply theoretical aspects of business and management in practical operational and management processes at enterprises and institutions in various industries - practical training report, a reference of the work placement coach, the presentation of the report
2. Integrate and apply the acquired knowledge to take part in business and management processes in enterprises and institutions - practical training report, a reference of the work placement coach, the presentation of the report
3. Analyse, compare and assess various business and management processes in enterprises and institutions and identify opportunities for enhancing the processes - practical training report, a reference of the work placement coach, the presentation of the report
4. Explain and present the results of their work to others - presentation of the practical training report
5. Cooperate with the personnel of the work placement organisation - reference of the work placement coach
6. Responsibly plan the completion of the assignments given - practical training report, a reference of the work placement coach, the presentation of the report

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Getting familiarized with the work placement organization as well as the kind of activity performed by and the historical background of the organization. The strategy, mission and goals of the work placement organization. The organizational structure of, the decision-making process and the information management process at the organization. The legal framework for entrepreneurship.
2. SWOT analysis of the work placement organization. Implementation of the management functions. Planning process management.
3. Personnel management. Labour force analysis.
4. Assessment of the competitiveness of the enterprise, personnel and goods. Competitor analysis.
5. Enterprise financial management process. Business financing. Cost, break-even point and profit analysis. Bankruptcy probability diagnosis.
6. Production (service provision) process management. Output analysis.
7. Analysis of long-term investments and current assets.
8. Logistics process organization.
9. Risk management process at the organization.
10. Quality management.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Assessment with a mark. The mark consists of the following pieces of assessment:
• the practical training report,
• a reference of the work placement coach,
• the presentation of the report.
The practical training has to be undergone within the period specified, a practical training report has to be produced and defended at the Institute of Business and Management Science before the Practice Defence Committee. Failure to undergo or complete the practical training or produce or defend the report within the specified period represent outstanding course requirements. Any practical training missed or not completed may be undergone in the next academic year.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

The student has to produce a practical training report during the placement in line with the practice curriculum. A fully completed report together with a reference from the placement supervisor has to be submitted to the supervisor appointed by the Institute at the final stage of the training – on the date prescribed by the semester plan.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The student’s practical training is assessed with a mark by the Practice Defence Committee based on the quality of the report, the student’s presentation and defence result and the reference of the placement supervisor.
