Course abstract

The course provides students with an in-depth knowledge of business planning and a methodology therefor, systematization of plans, including targeting all the levels of business planning, development of systemic plans and interconnection among them as well as efficiency assessment of the plans by applying the controlling methodology. The course focuses on the development of groups of common indicators for analysing and controlling plans of various levels and planning indicators by means of elements of controlling.

1. Historical aspects of planning. (lectures - 2 hours)
2. The Nature and Statement of Planning. (lectures - 2 hours; practical - 2 hours)
3. Planning techniques, methods and methodology. (lectures - 1 hour; practical - 2 hours)
4. Planning system. (lectures - 1 hour)
5. Decision making and planning. (lectures - 1 hour; practical - 11 hours)
6. Normative planning system. (lectures - 1 hour; practical - 1 hour)
7. Planning for High Performance. Efficiency and Quality of Plans. (lectures - 2 hours; practical - 4 hours)
8. Controlling in Planning - The Nature, Functions, Tasks, Methods and Tools. (lectures - 3 hours)
9. Controlling Instruments - (lectures - 2 hours; practical work - 12 hours)

10. Organizing and Leading Controlling. (lectures - 1 hour)

Requirements for awarding credit points

The course includes three tests with calculations. Practical works and group work to be done during practical work in the classroom. At the end of the course, there is an exam consisting of a face-to-face exam (scheduled for the exam) and exam work that must be developed and submitted by the time of the exam.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Within the framework of the study course description for independent work is given 112 hours. Independent studies (work) are organized as follows: preparing for practical work and group work (2 hours); learning and preparing for tests with calculations (15 hours for each test); preparing of exam work (30 hours) and learning/ preparing for an exam (35 hours).

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The final grade in the study course is formed by:
10% practical assignments, practical group work, case studies - Assignments for developing systemic knowledge of business planning
15% test with calculations - Planning Calculation Tasks;
15% test with calculations - Revenue/cost control calculations for a particular planning problem;
15% test with calculations - Product Strategy and Solving a problem of a Product Strategy and a Product Plan by the ABC/XYZ method;
20% exam work - Assessment of a system of plans in an enterprise;

25% exam - Planning Priorities, a Map of Strategies, Application of Controlling instruments.
