Course abstract

In the course students will get theoretical knowledge, practical skills and understanding about logistics. After studying this subject, students become aware of the logistics conception and essence, its evolution, role. Students will understand logistics main functions, organization and instruments of those realization, types of logistics core operations and their ensuring functions. Students will acquire basic knowledge in logistics management in enterprise and in constituent elements of logistics system, its planning and control processes. Students will evaluate logistics trends in Latvia.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge – on the evolution of logistics theory, latest trends in Latvia and in the world. Form the understanding of the logistics core operations and their ensuring, control tools. Cognitive and selective knowledge of the logistics environment composing internal and external factors, as well as the main logistics costs. Basic knowledge of issues related to logistics management in companies and regulation of international business transactions.
• Skills – students are able to distinguish the core operations of logistics and their ensuring tools. Skills to analyze the logistics environment comprising internal and external factors. Skills to find and apply regulation of international business transactions.
• Competence – students will become aware of the work and a range of obligations of logistics specialist and logistics department manager. Knowledge and practical skills in order to cover the whole site of logistics in company, its operations organization and analysis.
