Course abstract

Students gain basic knowledge on various organizational management and transformation processes, on manager’s work and its role in qualitative and productive work of organizations as well as on application of different management approaches in realization management functions in organizations.
The aim of the study course is to create students' knowledge, skills and competence about the nature of management, functions, management styles and differences in management in the public and private sectors.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge:
Students will be able to:
1.demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the nature and functions of management - discussions
2. demonstrate the knowledge of management in public and private sector organizations and the evolution of management – test.
3. demonstrate the knowledge of management styles and organizational management in times of change
Professional skills:
1.Independently analyse situations in organizations – discussions;
2. Independently do planning and establish communication within the organization – discussions;
3.Reasonably explain thematters related to the functions of management – test;
4.Motivate individuals and managethe process ofchange- test.
Sofft skills:
Responsibly perform the assignments given, meeting the deadlines, substantiate and reasonably explain the matters related to the functions of management, participate in group work and discussions - discussion, case studies.
Competence :
Independently analyse various management approaches and situations
Independentlymake decisions on resource management in public and private sector organizations (Test, discussions, case studies, exam)

Requirements for awarding credit points

The course includes four tests to be performed during the practical work in the classroom and situation analysis tasks and discussions in practical classes.
Final evaluation of the study course - exam.

Study process in part-time distance learning is organised in accordance with the Order of the Vice-Rector of Studies No. 2.4.-5/59 On distance learning procedures at LBTU. Study courses are scheduled for each semester according to the study plan. The students learn the topics included in the study course independently, using the materials created and placed by the lecturer in the e-studies (Moodle). Feedback on the learning of lecture and seminar topics in distance learning is organised in the form of self-assessment tests, discussion forums and independent work, as well as in face-to-face or online consultations, lectures and final examinations according to the timetable.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Within the study course, the following is allocated for independent studies:
1.)96 hours of full-time studies, which are organized as follows: preparation for four tests (60 hours), preparation of practical tasks at the indicated times (30 hours), preparation for the exam (16 hours);
2.) 128 hours of part-time distance learning, which are organized as follows: preparation for four tests (80 hours), preparation of practical tasks at the indicated times and discussions in forums (32 hours), preparation for the exam (16 hours);

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The final assessment of the study course consists of:
all tests - 40 points
situation analysis tasks - 10 points
exam - 50 points.
10 points make up 1 point of the exam mark.
