Course abstract

Within the framework of this study course, students further develop and obtain new knowledge, skills and competences in pedagogy, incl. knowledge of: diversity of education concepts and approaches, professional and career education, concepts of competency/competence and competitiveness, media pedagogy, inclusive education, social pedagogy. Students further develop self-reflection ability; improve and develop its competences, incl. ability to use creatively obtained knowledge and skills in pedagogical practice and own theoretical research.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge of the diversity of of education concepts and approaches, professional and career education, concepts of competency/competence and competitiveness, media pedagogy, inclusive education, social pedagogy.
Workshop 1. Individual and group work within the theoretical content of the study course (assessment with mark).
Skills. Students are able to find, critically evaluate, select and independently study scientific literature within the framework of the study course requirements, able to create a clear, qualitative presentation within the framework of requirements.
Competences. Students are able to independently conduct in-depth theoretical research within the chosen research topic, respecting the requirements set; can reflect on their own life experience, incl. pedagogical experience, through reflection.
Workshop 2: 1) presentation and discussion of the study work as a theoretical research; 2) presentation of experience reflection and discussion (assessments with mark).

Exam (summative or cumulative assessment) at the end of the semester and the whole study course (12 ECTS).

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Introduction to the study course "Pedagogy and Psychology II" (1 h).
2. Diversity of educational conceptions and pedagogical approaches (3 h).
3. Information society and knowledge society (2 h).
4. Continuing education and further education (2 h).
5. Professional/vocational education as part of educational sistem. Professional/vocational education for sustanability of society and liberalization of labor market (2 h).
6. Education for professional development and improvement in Latvia (2 h).
7. Career education as part of career development guidance (3 h).
8. Competence and Competitiveness in Education, incl. professional/vocational education (3 h).
9. Inclusive education as a topical issue of today (2 h).
10. Media Pedagogy. Teacher media competence. Pupils' competences in the information and technology environment (2 h).
11. Theory and practice of social pedagogy in Latvia and the world. Teacher, including social pedagogue, competences and functions in the field of social pedagogy (3 h).
12. Workshop 1. Study course content analysis and evaluation, linking theory to practice (2 h)
13. Workshop 2. Analytically evaluating presentations and discussion of the studied monographs or dissertations. Discussions (5 h).

Requirements for awarding credit points

Participation in lectures.
Participation in all workshops.
In-depth independent theoretical studies on education.
All requirements have been respected, all independent work has been carried out and successful assessments have been obtained in all workshops of the study course.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Lectures and seminars are planned and managed for students.
Students at the beginning of the study course already know all the requirements for a successful completing of study course.
Independent work in preparation for seminars.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Knowledge of the theoretical content of the study course.
Ability to find, critically evaluate, select, study and analyze scientific literature according to requirements.
Content, volume and presentation of the study paper in accordance with the requirements (incl. timely submission of the study paper).
Ability to analyze and evaluate own life experience, incl. pedagogical experience, through reflection.
Qualitative presentations on reflection of written study work and experience, as well as public presentation, ability to reasonably discuss the topics.
