Course abstract

The study course covers the main issues of pedagogy, psychology and methodology of visual art, reflecting the most essential techniques and types for the development of calendar and thematic plans of classes, as well as what methodological and visual aids could be applied for the classes of Visual Art, what assessment forms and what criteria could be used for pupils of different age groups.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

•Knowledges- to comprehend, analyse and assess theories and conceptions on methodology of Visual Art and their application in practice; on the preparation of classes, teaching methods, the assessment of pupils’ creative work.
•skills– to analyze and evaluate the theories of methodology and to choose the most appropriate of them for the study process in Visual Art; to evaluate and apply the most appropriate teaching methods, assessment forms, visual aids and textbooks.
•competence– able to know the standards of the Visual Art subject, to develop and evaluate the themes of Visual Art; able to prepare the thematic plan for a study-year, as well as the calendar plan; able to plan and run the classes of Visual Art; able to develop visual aids and theoretical materials, and tests.
Knowledge test, discussion of the theoretical issues discussed in the program. Knowledge, skills and competences are reflected in individual practical exercises that are carried out in practice. Evaluating the results - review the work at the end of the semester

7. Interdisciplinary link in the teaching of visual art.
8. Preparation and planning of the visual arts lesson.
9. Types and kinds of visual arts lessons.
10. Lesson analyzes the main criteria.
11. Types of Student Success Control in Visual Art.
12. Development of criteria for evaluation of practical works of visual art.
13. Preparation and application of necessary visual materials.
14. Recommended techniques and workshops in visual arts lessons.
15. The essence of art pedagogy.
16. Art pedagogy problem solving in Latvia and the world.

List of Practical Works:
1. To develop criteria for evaluation of creative works and to apply them for practical analysis of works made in different techniques. Knows the criteria for evaluating creative works, is able to use them in practical and professional work.
2. Participate in one of the students' practical exhibitions, evaluate it and analyze the basic criteria of placement. Knows the principles of exhibitions, criteria for evaluation of creative works, is competent and competent to use them in practical and professional activities.
3. Analyzing and developing methodological materials for different age groups. Evaluation and development of visual materials. Knows the theory for the analysis of methodological materials, is able to use it in practical and professional work.
4. Analysis of creative works, evaluation of material compliance. Know the criteria for analyzing creative works, know how to use them in practical and professional work.
5. Preparation of a presentation on one of the themes of visual art, the course of creation and visual
production of materials. Knows the conditions for making presentations, knows how to use them in practical and professional work.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Attendance, practical work, successfully written test, exam.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Sketches, creative works in the plane, volume and colors are made. The course paper is being developed. If necessary, the work started in the lesson is completed independently.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The examination grade is composed of the average grade of the practical work and test developed during the semester.
Criteria for evaluation of practical work - 1. Compliance with the given task; 2. Work culture, accuracy and quality; 3. work idea and composition; 4. use of composition expression tools and color teaching
