Course abstract

Pre-school education is the first stage of education implemented in the family or family and pre-school educational establishment. During pre-school education by help of pedagogues and parents the child’s personality is formed, health is built on and the child is prepared for learning at school. The pre-school education pedagogical process is based on humanity, visuality and succession principles. The acquisition of the program is oriented to cognition, development and education of children personality development. In studies the educational process are analysed

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge: understand and evaluate the most important problems in pre-school education. Relate theoretical knowledge to solving of practical problems – test.
Skills: can obtain and apply information necessary for the pedagogical process and organize work with pre-school children – practical works, independent homeworks.
Competence: show the ability to manage and take responsibility for achieving the stated pedagogical aims - independent homeworks.

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Characteristics, objectives and tasks of pre-school education. Conformity of pre-school education to child development and world cognition. Regulations for national preschool education guidelines and examples of pre-school education programs. – 4h
2. Teacher - Promoter of pre-school children self-confidence. Child-centred pedagogical approach to pre-school. – 4h
3. Modern teaching methods and learning styles in pre-school. Teaching and educational process organization in pre-school. – 4h
4. View into the history and development of pre-school education institutions. The essence of alternative education theories and their use in modern pre-school education. – 2h
5. Characterization of development of pre-school child. Analysis of child's individual skills and development of creative activity in theory and practice in pre-school. – 2h
6. Promoting cognitive activity and thinking in pre-school. Literary works as promoters of creative activity at pre-school age. -2h
7. A game as a leading activity in pre-school age. Toys for fostering communicative skills of pre-school children. Movement and scene games. Didactic games in teaching and educational process– 4h
8. Value education is an important factor in personality development. Ethical values formation of pre-school age. Behavioural culture and attitudinal issues in pre-school. – 2h
9. Child in learning and upbringing environment. Analyzing the problems of upbringing in the pedagogical process in pre-school. – 2h
10. Pre-school learning environment. Unity and individual approach to the teaching and upbringing process. – 2h

11. The need for improved collaboration between family, school and society. – 2h
12. The need for the professional development of a teacher. – 2h

Requirements for awarding credit points

Test with mark.
Requirements for passing the test:
1.Attended 80% of classes.
2. Successfully written test (mark).
3. Developed and defended practical works (pass / fail).
4. Presented and defended independent homeworks (mark).
5. Active participation in group work, role play and discussions(pass / fail)

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

1. Prepare a presentation on teaching and upbringing issues for pre-school children
2. Prepare a description of watching for three lessons (by given web addresses).
3. Develop methodology for specific lesson.
4. Write a review of the pre-school methodology book.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

A test with a mark is provided at the end of the course.
1. Theoretical knowledge and methodology in practical work and independent homework.
2. Skills to discuss, to argue, to present.
3.Work organization skills - inclusion in deadlines
