Course abstract

Wood is a building material that has been used based on private-sector buildings. There is already a well-known public buildings as part of the construction element. Over the past century many European countries conducted a study and design of a comprehensive review of operational experience have resulted in building basic design principles. These principles for this are discussed in this study course in general, but from practical application side, designing by computer programs.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge of wood as a construction material advantages and disadvantages (independent work defense and oral test). Skills take various wood products and product design work, including through the proposed design of the computer program (independent work defense and oral test). Competence find the best ecological and economically advantageous design of wood product design and performance options (independent work defense and oral test).

Course Content(Calendar)

1.Main types of joints in wood construction elements (lectures 4 hours)
2.Use of wood in construction (lectures 4 hours)
3.Forecasting wood properties in load-bearing and self-supporting structural elements (lectures 4 hours)
4.Designing of wooden structures in design programms (practical classes 60 hours)

Requirements for awarding credit points

Independent work regarding choice of the study subject and oral test should be defended

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Independent work based on the one of the topics of study plan

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The final evaluation of the study course consists of:
independent work - 90%; oral test - 10%
