Course abstract

Forest product types: wood, stumps, branches, tree foliage, heating wood chips, etc. Volume determination by weight scale, loose volume scale, stacked volume scale and cubic volume scale. Automatic measurement principles in harvesters and sorting lines. Data transmission systems. International, national and local production classifications and coding systems. The flow of information and calculation systems of timber flow.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Master students acquire knowledge of different types of forest product volume, the comparison of volume detection methods and reasons for their choice, product type classification systems and transparency of wood flow;
* Skills are acquired how to choose the appropriate volume detection methods for round timber, as well as coding systems;
* Competence is obtained to assess the adequacy of wood product volume detection method and of wood flow system.
