Course abstract

Diploma thesis testify the level of student's theoretical and practical training and ability to solve independently the problems, connected with the subbranch of Material Science - Wooden materials and technologies, to draw conclusions and to bring up proposals.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge as a sufficient informative basis for independent solutions of various problematic aspects of the forest industry (Evaluated in the content presentation of the diploma paper and oral presentation, defending the work).
Ability to conduct experimental experiments on the basis of which to draw substantive conclusions, to make proposals, to present and publicly defend the obtained results (Evaluated in the printed diploma paper). Competence as a knowledge-based ability to skillfully orient in the various aspects of the forest industry (Evaluated during the oral presentation of the diploma paper).

Course Content(Calendar)

Execution of topics is performed as an individual job under the supervision of the supervisor
1 Finding out the current state of research by topic (40 hours)
2 Choice of topic, development of work goal and tasks (40 hours)
3 Review of topic questions by information sources (40 hours)
4 Choice of topic solution methodology (40 hours)
5 Selection of data collection location (40 hours)
6 Data collection according to the methodology (40 hours)
7 Data analysis according to the aim and task of the work (40 hours)
8 Discussion of results (40 hours)
9 Preparation of conclusions and proposals (40 hours)
10 Preparation of the presentation and pre-defense (40 hours)
11 Final work, binding, submission for review (40 hours)
12 Preparation of diploma thesis for presentation and public defense (40 hours)

Requirements for awarding credit points

The diploma thesis must be developed in full, in accordance with the existing requirements of the LUA, defended in the State Examination Commission and evaluated with a mark.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Each week, during the meeting with the supervisor make discussion regarding independent tasks and making plan for the next reporting period. Pre-defending a diploma thesis presents the work done throughout the content of the thesis.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Graduation Thesis consists of:
1.Written diploma thesis 80%
2.Speeches and replies to the State Examination Commission questions 20%
