Course abstract

Students get knowledge and skills of crocheting, different techniques and patterns of it, understand availability of different materials (including recycled materials) and usage of it by their properties; are able to use different crochet technologies where appropriate (considering to usage of product, expenses, production time, matrials etc.) in practise by making collection of textiles or parts of it, as well as using crochet technologies to create different contemporary and practical products of design, are able to sinthesize crocheting with other textile technologies

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge - in range of crochet suitable materials and their properties; in different technologies of crocheting, it's structure and technological process; in modelling and pattern creating; to make measuring and calculations for patterns; to calculate expenses and quantity of materials, to plan production time (inspiration presentation, sample catalog, product)
Skills - to create products/collection or parts of it from design till ready product according to demands of project; to choose appropriate materials, suitable techniques and technologies for concrete project as well as to synthesize crochet with other textile technologies; to read and to work out technological cards; to analyse technologies of textile industry, follow it development and tendencies (sample catalog, shape crochet, textile upcycling project, product, tablet in the synthesis of textile equipment)
Competence - ability to create long lasting product- efficient and modern, cheaper produced, easy to care and easy to use. Ability to work out technological cards un technological processes of product. Ability to present own product (individual project)

Full time intramural studies:
1. Classification of crochet, types, materials and tools to be used - lecture 1 h, practical work 2 h (inspiration presentation)
2. Crochet with a crochet hook. Types of patterns - lecture 2 h, practical work 4 h (sample catalog)
3. Lace crochet - lecture 1 h, practical work 2 h (sample catalog)
4. Checkerboard stitches (granny square) - lecture 1 h, practical work 2 h (sample catalog)
5. Shape crochet - lecture 1 h, practical work 3 h (sample catalog)
6. Freeform crochet. Synthesis of textile techniques – lecture 1h, practical work 7 h (shape crochet, visual board)
7. Crochet on fabric. Types of decorative edges - lecture 1 h, practical work 3 h (sample catalog)
8. Individual project - source of inspiration plant - practical work 3 h
9. Crochet by patterns, narrowing of the product, widening, shaping - lecture 1 h, practical works 2 h (individual project)
10. Motif crochet - lecture 1 h, practical work 3 h (sample catalog)
11. Irish laces - lecture 1 h, practical work 3 h (sample catalog)
12. Romanian point laces - lecture 1 h, practical work 3 h (sample catalog)
13. Hairpin laces - lecture 1 h, practical work 4 h (sample catalog)
14.Tunisian crochet - lecture 1 h, practical work 3 h (sample catalog)
15. Textile upcycling with crochet, synthesis with other techniques – lecture 1h, practical works 12 h (textile upcycling)
16. Individual project development, presentation - practical works 8 h

Part time extramural studies:

All topics specified for full time studies are accomplished, but the number of contact hours is one half of the number specified in the calendar

Requirements for awarding credit points

Worked out and presented all independent practical works

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Inspirational presentation on a specific topic (topic is choose by lot)
Catalogue of patterns (patterns crocheted with different materials: single crochet, half double crochet (crocheting behind the edge of the back loop), double crochet (crocheting behind the edge of the front loop), checkered crochet, crocheted shapes (circle and square / triangle), laces, motif crochet, Irish laces, crochet on fabric, Romanian point laces, Tunisian crochet, hairpin laces.
Board textile synthesis 30x 30 cm, “Nature motif” (various techniques, materials, textures, effects). View of nature choose by lot.
Shape crochet- false cake.
Textyle upcycling- to choose one or more ready garments and upcycling in one garment with crochet (different techniques can be used)
Individual project - product, source of inspiration - plant / natural form (being choos by lot). The product must be functional, related to the plant (shape, color, structure, texture, etc.), crochet at least 50%. Research material, inspiration board, A3 visual board, advertising booklet.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Each work is evaluated in a 10-point system, the final evaluation consists of an average mark.
Criteria for evaluating practical works (9 or 10 points in total):
• compliance with the task 2 points,
• all conditions are met / contains all components 2 points,
• Quality 2 points
• color harmony, composition, proportions 2 points
• 1 point during inclusion
• Outstanding performance / innovation 1 point

Notes

The course is included in the compulsory part of the TF professional higher education bachelor study program "Design and Crafts" in full-time and part-time studies with the specialization Textile Technology and Design
