Course abstract

Study course provides knowledge about higher education system in Latvia, expanded knowledge of the acquired specialty, the study process organization and normative bases of study in LUA. Knowledge of LUA, Forest Faculty history and of the structure and management. Learn study skills program design and course content, methods of studying and study skills work and research in development. To evaluate study works the requirements of performance and execution, introduce with forest industry regarding to studies.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge of LUA history, LUA museum, FF and Department of Wood Processing history, structure and organization of studies, "Forest and Wood Products R&D Institute" Ltd. activities, the student society "Šalkone" LUA student club activities, e-learning, study process in undergraduates (III, IV) point of view.
Skills to navigate the world of higher education fundamentally, Europe, Latvia, LUA, MF, LUA library to obtain information, on safety in everyday life.
Competence to assess the role of the forest sector in the Latvian economy and the trend in Latvian and in the world

8. Possibilities of LLU E-study and evaluation of senior students on theoretical and practical implementation of studies. (1h)

10. LLU structure and activities of other faculties. (4 h)

Requirements for awarding credit points

In order to obtain a test, which indicates the acquisition of a study course, at least 85% of classes must be attended. All practical work, submitted and defended presentation, written test must be completed and defended. The test with a mark is formed from the sum of points (points) obtained in the test and the submitted, defended presentation according to the evaluation scale in a 10-point system.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

In practical work 48 h students must learn the following topics:
• available forest industries, i. wood processing sector, data analysis and processing (24h);
• development trends in the wood processing sector, influencing factors in Latvia and in the world (8h);
• the latest technologies in the wood processing industry and the characteristics of the production of finished products (8h).
• Production characteristics of finished wood products (8h)

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

As a result of evaluation, it is important that the student's attendance is over 85% of all lectures.
In the study course, students' knowledge assessment takes in 2 parts, i.e. during the semester there are:
• complete a theoretical test on the topics taught in the course, where oral or written answers are successful, if at least 40% of the questions are answered correctly;
• prepare and defend a presentation and be successful if at least 40% of the score on a 10-point scale..
The final grade consists of a weighted average grade (on a 10-point scale) – from a visit (10%), a tests (30%) and a presentation (60%).
