Course abstract

The aim of this course is to provide students with knowledge how to measure individual tree, its part and stand characteristics. Forest characteristic parameters, data collection methods and tools are described. An important part of the course is dedicated for forest inventory methods in different levels. Study course consists of practical and theoretical parts. Theoretical part considers forest mensuration and inventory methods, formulas, calculations and quality of the data. Practical part gives skills which are necessary for forest inventory specific in Latvia and other country.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After completing the course student will have:
• Knowledge about forest stand mensuration; forest stand parameters determination; forest inventory specific; remote sensing sensors, geographic information systems and global navigation satellite system usage in forest inventory.
• Skills to use forest taxation and inventory methods for data collection, storage, inspection and processing in all level of complexity.
• Competence of software’s used in forest inventory and forest management planning; knows how to handle a wide range of instruments.
