Course abstract

Study course provides knowledge of forest ownership forms and forest management regulations according to Laws and Norms of the Republic of Latvia, felling volumes, forest regeneration and afforestation in privately owned forests. Students will get acquainted with the problems of environmental protection and development of infrastructure in private forests. Vital problems of co-operation of private forest owners and also State role and support functions in privately owned forests will be analyzed.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Students will gain knowledge of the goals, strategy and problems of privately owned forest management in Latvia, the role and State support functions regarding privately owned forests.
• Students will obtain skills necessary for practical studies, analysis and using information, connected with Forestry strategy problems in context of management of private forests.
• As result the students will be competent independently analyzing theoretical and practical aspects of realization of Forestry strategy in private forests, to work out the management plan for privately owned forests.
