Course abstract

Study course aim is to provide students with the knowledge of environmentally friendly, economically profitable and socially acceptable forest management in all types of forests.In lectures are explained the theoretical knowledge, in laboratory works students are studing different forest management methods and models, but in course project they create a real forest management plan.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Students requre knowledge about forest management planning in space and time. (practice work)
• The student can integrate the forest ecological, economic and social functions in forest management goals and tasks.(practice work)
• Competence calculate finance flow, valuation of ecological, economical and social goods and services. The student can independently develop forest management plan.(practice work)

1 Forest management as a forest inventory, forestry organization design system (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
2 Planning process and information, latest technologies in forest inventory and forest management planning (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
3 Normal forest theory, optimal forest, economic indicators for determining the efficiency of forest management (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
4 Ecological, economic and social functions of the forest, planning of multifunctional forest use (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
5 Financial flow in forestry, forest growth, growth modeling, forest management methods (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
6 Determining the age of the main felling (forest readiness), calculation of the annual main felling volumes (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
7 Design principles for intermediate felling, main felling and reforestation (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
8 Ecological inventory and planning of the forest, arrangement of social values of the forest (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
9 Characterization of the site territory and forest growth conditions, tables characterizing forests and forest land (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
10 Forestry organizations and basic rules of forest management (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
11 Evaluation of the optimal forest management scenario (lecture 1 h, practice work 1 h)
