Course abstract

Course gives basic knowledge about timber and other forest resource flows and insight in different logistic flows and their monitoring systems. Course base consists of logistics theoretical principles, technical characteristics of logging and timber transport units and opportunities for planning of different timber flows. Detailed look at logistical solutions of round wood flows and use of corresponding software in supply chain management is given. Course also looks at economic aspects of forest logistics.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

• Knowledge about logistics and its application in forest sector, flows in logistics and their management, planning of wood transportation and calculation of transportation costs.
• Skills to analyze and manage information flows from planning of logging operations till the wood end-consumer, to choose optimal supply chain and make efficient planning of production transportation.
• Competence - the student is able to apply information technology for management and controlling wood supply chain.
