Forest roads are used for complex forest management - at the same time for timber transportation, silvicultural, forest custody and protection and game management and recreational needs. Enough dense, according to suspension system built and correctly exploitation forest road network provides rhythmic and economical road transport work and complex forest management
Students acquire:
• Knowledge about of the main forest road design methods for various excavation and embankment and surfacing and building organization;(course project)
• Skills to preparation of projecting tasks for infrastructure objects;(course project)
• Competence how to assess project and quality of fulfilled building works.(presentation)
1. Familiarity with the course project task and forest stand plan .
2. The role of forest drainage systems in forest road construction .
3. Design parameters of the drainage and newly developed ditches of the drainage system .
4. Drawing of longitudinal profiles and cross profiles of drainage ditches.
5. Estimates of forest drainage system construction volumes.
6. Design of forest roads in plan.

8. Road longitudinal profile and cross profiling.
9. Forest road construction design work volume table.
10. Forest felling area – a sketch of the route felling.

The issue of the course project, its enforcement methodology and consultation take place during the practical lessons of the “Forest Infrastructure II” course. Credit scores are obtained by defending the course project.
Studies on forest road design and construction practices in Latvia and elsewhere in the world.
The study results are controlled by the course project evaluating knowledge of the design and construction of forest roads.

The study course is included in the compulsory part of full-time and part-time studies of the professional higher education bachelor study program “Forest Engineer” of the Faculty of Forestry.
