Course abstract

The course introduces with the prerequisites for a complex forest management forest reclamation and the improvement of infrastructure, the role of forest roads as transport routes to access every forest compartment and to ensure forest protection and timber transport.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Students acquire:
• Knowledge about importance of melioration and building roads for forest management, about conditions of projecting, building and maintenance forest infrastructure objects;(test)
• Skills to preparation of projecting tasks for infrastructure objects;(test)
• Competence how to assess project and quality of fulfilled buil(test)

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Restoration and rebuilding of the forest amelioration system (2 academic hours).
2. Forest amelioration construction specifications (2 academic hours).
3. Preparatory work (1 academic hour).
4. Ditch network digging/recleaning (2 academic hours).
5. Throughfall works and ditch corroboration building (2 academic hours).
6. Surface runoff regulation and construction of walkways (2 academic hours).
7. Excavation of sedimentation pools (2 academic hours).
8. Forest road planning and design (2 academic hours).
9. Technical solutions in forest road projects (2 academic hours).
10. Road route preparation (2 academic hours).
11. Land cover building (2 academic hours).
12. Throughfall building (2 academic hours).
13. Road cover building (2 academic hours).
14. Use of geosynthate materials (1 academic hour).
15. Main construction materials used (2 academic hours).
16. Essay presentations (4 academic hours).

Requirements for awarding credit points

All practical works, prepared essays, written tests and settled exam must be developed. If all tests are written with a rating of 4 balls and more, students can get an accumulative exam rating as an average of the test ratings.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Legislative studies on the design and construction of forest drainage systems and forest roads.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The study results are controlled by knowledge of:
1. design and construction of forest amelioration systems;
2. design and construction of forest roads.
