Course abstract

Forest amelioration and improvement of forest road network are a prerequisite for forest complex management. The role of forest roads as an arteries of transport through which forest compartments can be accessed to carry out forest guarding and safeguards and timber removal.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

SLearning of the course provides students with knowledge of the importance of drainage and road building in forest management, the design, construction and maintenance rules of the forest infrastructure facility. As a result, the skill to prepare design tasks for infrastructure facilities and competence to assess the quality of projects and executed works is learned.

1. The necessity and tasks of drainage (2 academic hours).
2. Drainage methods, techniques and systems (2 academic hours).
3. Drainage canals (4 academic hours).
4. Protection canals (1 academic hour).
5. Diversion canals (2 academic hours).
6. Water supply canals (1 academic hour).
7. Road network, transport and hydrotechnical structures in drainage areas (2 academic hours).
8. General characteristics of roads (2 academic hours).
9. Road establishment in plan (2 academic hours).
10. Road cross-profile (2 academic hours).
11. Road longitudinal profile (2 academic hours).
12. Ground cover (2 academic hours).
13. Road blankets (2 academic hours).
14. Measures to improve traffic safety and road equipment (1 academic hour).
15. Forest road maintenance (4 academic hours).
16. Non-standard solutions in the construction of infrastructure facilities (1 academic hour).

Requirements for awarding credit points

All practical works and successfully written two tests must be developed to count the first part of the study course.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Regulatory studies relating to amelioration and motorways.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Student knowledge is evaluated in two tests:
Test 1 – Forest drainage system;
Test 2 – Forest roads.
