Course abstract

The objective of the course is to give insight into Public health science and epidemiology, practical aspects of public health and relation with other medical and social sciences. The course covers basic fields of public health, like environmental health, health promotion and prophylaxis, life quality studies.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

After completing of study course students will have knowledge about role of Public health in relations with other social sciences, knowledge on Public health politics, strategies in Latvia, European Union and global context. They will have skills to evaluate role of different risk factors from individual and public perspectives, competence to use most appropriate epidemiological study designs and measurements according to study hypothesis and basic principles on data collection, using statistical methods.
