Course abstract

The aim of the studying course is to get knowledge about computer aided design and possibility to use CAD software to solve engineering problems and process automatization. Students learn the rules of design and automatic creation of drawings.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge – Students understand the principles of modelling and are familiar with methods of digital prototype design of parts and assemblies with several features and standard mates. They know the possibilities of automatic creation of parts and assemblies drawings. Knowledge is appreciated in tests and laboratory works.
Skills – Students know to design parts with several features, create automatic views and sections and perform drawings according LVS and ISO standards. Skills are appreciated in tests and laboratory works.

Competence – ability to apply professional knowledge and skills in practical work and studies to solve different engineering problems. Competence is appreciated in tests and laboratory works.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Students receive a final mark if they have successfully completed the tasks assigned in laboratory works and have passed 2 tests.
The tasks performed in the laboratory works have to be presented. Presentation includes short oral report of each finished task as well as answers to the questions about the theoretical aspects of this topic.
In the first test modelling of parts is required, but the second one an assembling of components is done. Theoretical knowledge is assessed as a test.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Advanced sketching.
Design of threaded parts – cosmetic, simplified, and schematic tread.
Modeling of casting part. Drawing.
Modeling and drawing of revolution solid.
Modeling of mechanism and creation assembly drawing.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

A student will get a successful mark on the test work if at least 50% of the tasks are properly solved.
The student receives high marks if the tasks performed in the laboratory and independent works are completed, well-designed and the student is able to answer the questions.
