Course abstract

Composition and Colour Studies includes the possibilitie of size, form, colour and materials. Studing the basic compositional principles, perception of form, different colour, materials and possibilities of construction, modelling and visual element composing in environment and space.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knows and understands the types of composition structure and the basic principles of representation, colour solutions and application possibilities: representation of relief, volume, shape and colour, interrelationships - theory Test.
Skills Creatively and independently in variations of relief, surface textures, shapes and forms of colour expression in the plane and volume (sketches, worksheets, layouts, packaging design, tablets, spatial objects, etc.). - Practical work.
Independently uses compositional knowledge and skills, makes practical works as prototypes of design thinking and possible reproduction materials: is able to think and act creatively, independently in composition; to analyze and evaluate the aesthetic quality and function of the work; reasoned reasoning, listening and evaluating each other and respecting the other's point of view; is able to apply ICT knowledge and skills in the development of compositions and presentations – independent Homeworks.

Course Content(Calendar)

Full time intramural studies:
1.Color. Color circle. Basic colors, contrasting colors. Local color. Paint in the subject environment, local color of the surfaces. 2h
(work with paint, practical work and independent homework - color circle / spectrum compositions, compositions).
2. Psychophysiological significance of colors. Color combinations, application. Good / medium / poor color ratio / readability. 2h
3. Harmonic and color contrast compositions. Warm - cool tones and light - dark color relationships. 1h
(practical work and independent homework - color tablet, application / collage)
4. The color transition of natural elements in the interior, exterior, outdoor space and objectivity environment. Textures and color impressions. 1h
(work with paint, practical work and independent homework - textures, prints, work with paint, paint compositions)

5. Proportions of subjects. Sense of color, shape, spatiality. Packaging, packaging design. 1h

6. Form, sign, symbols. Relief compositions. Volume. 1h
7. Object silhouette, contour line. Stylization. 1h
8.Associative thinking. Significance and types of associations. 1h

9. Symmetrical compositions. Asymmetrical compositions. 1h
10. Collage. Mosaic. Miniature. Assembly. 1h
(practical work and independent homework - creation of collage / mosaic/ assembly/ miniature)
11. Synthesis of materials, techniques. Types of surface finishing. Large format color compositions. 1h
(work with various materials, techniques and colors, practical work - work with surface and paint, textures, large format paint compositions - wall painting)
12. Composition in square, room, environment, subject environment, arrangement of objects / practical works in different planes. Exhibition and presentation of practical works on the chosen / given color, its meaning, application in the object / decorative / functional /environment- Research of the chosen color from the point of view of a specific person / user, summary of the work done in the presentation.
Creating a presentation in the most direct way is the ability and ability to compositionally fill a specific area, where visual information is clearly placed, combined with text. 2h

Part time extramural studies:

All topics specified for full time studies are accomplished, but the number of contact hours is one half of the number specified in the calendar

Requirements for awarding credit points

Examination requirements:
1. Attendance classes.
2. Developed and creatively accomplished practical works according to the themes and tasks-defended during the classes (sketches, worksheets, tablets, creative tasks) during the classes, which will be evaluated with a mark of 10 points in the system.
3. Independent homework has been submitted and defended, a presentation on color, which is evaluated with a mark in a 10-point system.
4. Presenting and defending the independent home works, estimated with a mark of 10 points in the system
5. Pass theory test, which is estimated with a mark of 10 points in the system.
6. Participation in the work show and work on the exposition at the end of the semester.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Independently and creatively developed sketches, worksheets, prototypes of design thinking, packaging design and possible elements of reproduction design, tablets, creative tasks - compiled, applied information resources; art, culture, contemporary art and design materials, artistic creativity, creativity, aesthetic and functional quality of works - according to themes and tasks.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, an examination with a mark on a 10-point scale.
Valuation criteria for practical works, test work, presentation and independent creative homework:
1. Compliance with the terms of reference, format and requirements.
2. Applied materials, technical and compositional principles.
3. Creativity.
4. Technical and aesthetic quality of work.
5. Presentation skills.
6. Organization of work skills - inclusion in deadlines.
