Course abstract

In this studies course Master students are acquainted with questions of poultry breeding - pure lines breeding, crossing, reciprocal and other methods by poultry breeding. In studies analyses the special breeding work at other meaning type of breeding farms. The Master students to train of ducks, geese, also turkey`s, quail’s and quinea-fowl breeding and welfare, technological processes of poultry production.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Master students acquire profound knowledge on the breeding of poultry, welfare requirements, how to apply correctly the biological peculiarities of poultry for the production of highly valuable and economically profitable produce of poultry husbandry, as well as the students are acquainted with the technologies applied in the poultry husbandry. Successful passed practical work.
Master students know how to breed, fatten chickens and pullets; they know the technologies of poultry keeping; as well as they know how to use literature and knowledge for the acquisition of economically profitable produce of poultry husbandry. Successful defense of a report. Master students are able to evaluate, discuss and argue their views on the issues of poultry husbandry. Master students are competent to apply the acquired skills within the process of professional development, as well as to analyze more profoundly the scientific literature and to perform independent scientific research in the poultry husbandry. Successful passed final exam.

7. Alternative keeping of laying hens.
8. Technologies for growing turkeys, geese, ducks, quail and guinea fowl. Lectures 3 h; Practical works 2 h
9. Breeding herd for different species of poultry. Lectures 2 h; Practical works 2 h
10. Poultry nutrition. Lectures 3 h; Practical works 3 h
11. Premixes, feed additives, feed acidifiers, phyto feed additives. Lectures 3 h; Practical works 3 h
12. Practical disinfection, disinsectisation and deratization of poultry houses and their safety. Lectures 2 h; Practical works 2 h

Requirements for awarding credit points

To ensure access to exam (in writing), Master students have to comply with course requirements, i.e. amount of classwork, practical works and defense of a report in accordance with course cpecification have to be evaluated positively.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Independent work on the issues marked by the study course. Literature studies, make of a report and public defense on a certain topic.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Successful assessment in the report and exam. The report accounts for 40% of the total evaluation and 60% of the total evaluation.
