Course abstract

The course provides knowledge of the sources of obligations rights, the composition of a legal transaction, losses and compensation for the losses, instruments for reinforcing obligations rightsand the termination of obligations rights. The course analyses some kinds of legal civil contracts and the procedure of conclusion of contracts in accordance with the Civil Law.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Students will be able to demonstrate:
KNOWLEDGE of
1. The substance andemergence of obligations law;the reinforcementand termination of obligations rights. Independent work.
2.The concept, components and kinds ofa legal transaction. Test with a case.
3. Contractualrelationships: the conceptand kinds of a contract, the procedure of concluding a contract. Test with a case.
4. Contracts regulated by the Civil Law and legal relations arising from the contracts. Test with a case.
SKILLS to
1. Independently identify obligations rights, the source of the rights, the ways of reinforcement of the rightsand the termination of the rights by using the theoretical knowledge acquired. Practical assignments.
2. Classify legal transactions and their components. Discussion in classes.
3. Independently identify legal civil contracts and the object and components thereof. Independent work, practical assignments.
COMPETENCES to
1. Independently analyse the sources, reinforcement and termination of obligations rights. Practical assignments, a test, an examination.
2. Independently identify obligations contracts and analyse the legal relations of both parties that arise from the contracts. Test, practical assignments, an examination.

Requirements for awarding credit points

The student has to pass two tests and an examination as well as complete and submit independent assignments.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Homework 1. Emergence of obligations law. Solution of a case. To be submitted electronically.
Homework 2. Elements of a legal transaction. Solution of a case. To be submitted electronically.
Homework 3. Instruments for enforcing obligations law. Solution of a case. To be submitted electronically.
Homework 4. Termination of obligations. Solution of a case. To be submitted electronically.
Homework 5. Procedure of conclusion of a contract. Solution of a case. To be submitted electronically.

Homework 6. Analysis of some kind of civil contracts concluded in accordance with the Civil Law. Solution of a case. To be submitted electronically.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The finalcumulative mark depends on a mark of the examination assignments and the marks of the tests and homework. Students earn a pass mark in the tests or the examination assignment if at least 40% of the questions are answered correctly.
The homework, the tests and the practical examination assignments (cases) are marked in accordance with the assessment procedure for homework, testsand examinations.
The final mark is calculated as an average of the marks of two assignments of the examination andtests. The weights of assessments: each test is 20%, activity during practicals 20%, the examination 40%.
10% are equal to one point on a 10-point marking scale.
