Course abstract

the course provide students with knowledge on settling the legal relations in civil cases. In the course, students gain knowledge on protection mechanisms for the rights offended and those protected by law, on preparing a lawsuit and submitting it to a law court, on legal proceedings at law courts of the Republic of Latvia, on verdicts and their execution, as well as on international cooperation.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge – students learn the nature and role of civil procedure in the modern society and get an understanding of settling civil lawsuits by means of the rights protection mechanism set by laws and the interaction between material and civil rights. Skills – students are competent in the rules of civil procedure, are able to use information sources on laws, protect civil rights that have been violated, draw up procedural documents, and defend individuals and legal entities at law courts. Competence – students gain knowledge and practical skills in independently analysing and assessing legal facts in a civil lawsuit and in legal acts related to it.
