Course abstract

The course is designed to develop competencies of students in the basic matters of law. Students gain knowledge of and skills in labour law and the basic elements of property law as well as family law and inheritance law. The course helps to understand today’s problems regarding obligations law.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Students will be able to demonstrate:
KNOWLEDGE of
1. The basic concepts and elements of law (Test).
2. The most important concepts and regularities of family law and inheritance law (Test).
3. The most important concepts of obligations law and property law (Test).
SKILLS
Professional skills to
1. Independently structure their studies, select necessary legal acts and find solutions to problems in the field of civil law and labour law (Educational game).
2. Independently make decisions and show close familiarity with labour law when solving problems (Independent work).
Soft skills to
1. Work individually and in groups, make decisions, assume responsibility, show organisational skills as well as identify legal acts, apply them and draw conclusions needed to solve the legal situation (Discussions in classes, an educational game).
COMPETENCES to
1. Independently find, select and apply legal information and solve practical situations in the field of civil law and labour law (Group work).

2. Critically analyse situations, interpret relevant legal provisions and identify imperfections (Final test, an educational game).

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Substance, features and functions of rights. The concept of a legal provision. Law and morals (lecture – 1 h, practical assignments – 1 h).
2. Concept, content and sources of labour law (lectures – 2 h, practical assignments – 1 h).
3. Termination of legal employment relationships (lecture – 1 h, practical assignments – 2 h).
4. Concept, content, sources of family law. Marriage. Ownership rights of spouses (lectures – 2 h, practical assignments – 2 h).
5. Concept of inheritance and heirs. Types of inheritance. Acceptance of inheritance (lectures – 2 h, practical assignments – 2 h).
6. Concept of property law. The classification of properties. The concept and types of servitudes (lectures – 2 h, practical assignments – 2 h).
7. Collateral rights. Types of collateral rights. Mortgage (lecture – 1 h, practical assignments – 1 h).
8. Obligations law. The emergence of obligations law (lecture – 1 h, practical assignments – 1 h).
9. Ways to enforce obligations law. Property responsibility (lecture – 1 h, practical assignments – 2 h).
10. Concept and types of civil contracts (lecture – 1 h, practical assignments – 1 h).

11.Specific types of civil contracts (purchase, lease, loan etc.) (lectures – 2 h, practical assignments – 1 h).

Requirements for awarding credit points

The student must pass 3 tests on relevant topics and complete practical assignments given in practicals.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

The student must prepare materials for group work and an educational game and participate in group work on obligations law and the educational game “Labour and family law”.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The total assessment consists of 4 activities: 3 tests and the educational game as well as a final test on all the topics.
