Course abstract

The course aims to provide theoretical knowledge of law and the legal system as a whole, general civil law and labour law, administrative proceedings in an institution and the forms of public administration stipulated in public law, as well as practical skills in law enforcement.
The course provides theoretical knowledge of the origin, substance and elements of the legal system, legal entities, general civil law: family and inheritance law, property and obligations law, as well as labour law, the forms of public administration stipulated in public law and administrative proceedings in an institution. Students acquire practical skills to apply the theoretical knowledge in their professional activity.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Students will be able to demonstrate:
KNOWLEDGE of
1. The origins and substance of law and the elements of the legal system: legal provisions, legal institutions, branches of law and legal entities. Test.
2. The forms of public administration stipulated in public law and administrative proceedings in an institution. Test with a law assignment.
3. Family and inheritance law. Test with a law assignment.
4. The system of obligations law, the nature of the main legal institutions of obligations law and the application of legal provisions to civil relationships. Test with a law assignment.
5. The establishment and termination of employment relationships, the rights, duties and responsibilities of employees and employers, setting working hours, pay and working procedures for employees, the resolution of labour disputes. Test with a law assignment.
SKILLS
1. Apply the acquired theoretical knowledge of the basic matters of law theory in practice. Independent work – an analysis of legal provisions, law assignments.
2. Independently analyse the forms of public administration stipulated in public law and administrative proceedings in an institution. Independent work – law assignments.
3. Independently find a solution to a legal problem by applying relevant family and inheritance laws. Independent work – law assignments.
4. Independently identify obligations, the incurrence of the obligations, the legal means of enforcement and termination of the obligations by applying the theoretical knowledge acquired. Independent work – law assignments.
5. Apply the acquired knowledge to independently analyse employment relationships. Independent work – law assignments.
6. Identify and creatively use relevant legal acts for doing legal assignments and solving legal problems. Independent work – law assignments.
7. Reasonably discuss legal problems in the relevant field of law by applying the theoretical knowledge acquired. Discussions in classes.

Requirements for awarding credit points

The student must complete all the pieces of independent work available on the e-learning platform and successfully pass five tests and the final test – a test on all the topics.

1. Legal system – an analysis of legal provisions. To be submitted electronically.
2. Forms of public administration stipulated in public law - law assignments. To be submitted electronically.
3. Family and inheritance law - law assignments. To be submitted electronically.
4. Incurrence of obligations. Legal transaction. Procedures for concluding contracts - law assignments. To be submitted electronically.

5. Labour law: the termination of employment relationships. Employee’s notice. Employer’s notice. Procedure for terminating an employment contract - law assignments. To be submitted electronically.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The assessment of the course represents a formal test with a mark. The final mark consists of the following pieces of assessment: Test 1 – 10%, Tests 2, 3, 4 and 5 – 15% and the final test – a test on all the topics – 30%.
