Course abstract

The main course objective is to introduce with formation of cultural environment, its material, social and spiritual aspects in Latvia. Course explores crucial formative objects of cultural environment and involvement of society in making and maintaining the cultural environment. That will allow evaluate the meaning of cultural environment, the necessity of maintaining it, and understand the possibilities to participate in its formation.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

1. Knowledge: a student knows cultural-historical heritage, understands Cultural environment sence and it’s connection with rural tourism entrepreneurship – seminars’ discussions, final written test.
2. Professional skills: a student is able to evaluate formative factors of cultural environment and their potential in forming of tourism and other entrepreneurship – seminars’ discussions, final written test.
Soft skills: a student is able to plan tasks responsibly, to analyse information, to participate in group activities – seminars’ discussion, student’s paper and its presentation, test work.
3. Competence: a student is able to solve problems of composition and maintenace of cultural environment and to justify his decisions on tourism entrepreneurship– seminars’ discussion, student’s paper and its presentation, test work.

6. Cultural and historical objects as part of the cultural environment (lecture 1h, seminar 1h).
7. Protection of cultural monuments in Latvia (lecture 1h, seminar 1h).
8. Traditions as spiritual aspect shaping cultural environment (lecture 1h, seminar 1 h).

Requirements for awarding credit points

Exam (written test). Exam’s accumulating assessment of study results: participation in seminars’ discussions (20%), final written test (40%), student’s paper and its presentation (30%).
Scientific literature chosen by a lecturer must be studied and discussed during seminars. Student’s paper must be elaborated and presented. Final written test in the end of the course. Scientific literature chosen by a lecturer must be studied and discussed in workshops (seminars). Own-initiative work must be drawn up and presented.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

1. The studies of scientific literature chosen by a lecturer for preparation of seminars’ topics.
2. Presentation of a subject selected by the student and accepted by the instructor.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Seminars – participation in seminars’ discussions, by justifying student’s opinion and answering questions. Participation in each seminar is evaluated in 3 grades scale: 1 – medium, 2 – good, 3 – very good. Results are summed up in the end of semester.
Presentation are evaluated with single grade according grade scale 10.
Final written test – evaluated in grade scale 10.
