Course abstract

The course provides knowledge of economic data processing and skills in the development and formatting of study papers and research papers. The student learns to apply information technology in solving various economic problems and in analysing and representing the research results, as well as to comprehend and adhere to technical requirements for study papers.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an awareness of necessary data sources and available computer software for computation. Test.
2. Demonstrate an awareness of the technical requirements for the layout and formatting of study papers and relevant computer software. Test and independent work.
3. Apply information technology to solve various economic problems and to analyse and present the results. Test.
4. Meet the technical requirements for aggregation and presentation of the work results. Test.
5. Employ statistical databases for acquiring necessary data. Practical assignments.
6. Systemise and present to others the work results. Independent work.

7. Apply computer software to process and analyse information as well as to write and format study papers in accordance with the requirement set. Test.

Course Content(Calendar)

1. Working with a word processor. Document section formation. Development and use of design and layout styles. (2 hours)
2. Inserting a table, drawing, and image in a document. Table formatting, calculation in the table. Drawing elements, their grouping. Attaching an image to text. (2 hours)
3. Automatic numbering of document objects, number correction. Creating and correcting cross-references. (2 hours)
4. Numbering of pages. Arranging a list of references. Creating lists of images and tables and a table of contents. (2 hours)
5. Test on document design, layout and formatting. (2 hours)
6. Principles of making a presentation. (2 hours)
7. Calculations in a spreadsheet. Types of formulas. Arithmetic operations, their execution sequence. (2 hours)
8. Math, Statistics, Date, Logical Functions. (2 hours)
9. Collection of data from statistical databases. Calculations of chronological data. (2 hours)
10. Calculations with date information. (2 hours)
11. Formulas with logical functions. (2 hours)
12. Concept of table. Processing table data with Math, Statistics and Text group functions. (4 hours)
13. Creating and formatting charts. (2 hours)
14. Test on data processing in a spreadsheet. (2 hours)

15. Presentation of independent work. (2 hours)

Requirements for awarding credit points

At least 40% of points for each test and independent work must be obtained:
1. Test on text document processing (max 26 p.)
2. Test on data processing in a spreadsheet (max 28 p.)

3. Independently made presentation (max 17 p.)

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Creating a presentation. A presentation on the given subject must be made independently, following the requirements stated. Volume - at least 5 slides of a different layout. To be submitted electronically.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Test with a mark. The final mark is based on the total score, which is made up of the sum of score points received for the tests and independent work.
40,0 – 49,9% mark 4
50,0 – 59,9% mark 5
60,0 – 69,9% mark 6
70,0 – 79,9% mark 7
80,0 – 89,9% mark 8
90,0 – 97,9% mark 9
98,0 – 100,0% mark 10
