Course abstract

The purpose of the course is to obtain extended understanding on the concept of computer aided design and spheres of usage in solving of engineering problems, as well as basic principles of computer aided system selection. Practically master course students acquire the possibilities of drawing of different components using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Mechanical or equivalent packages.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge on the concept of computer aided design and spheres of different CAD system application, the basic principles of computer aided system selection. Knowledge is assessed in Test 1 and practical works. Skills to choose an appropriate software application related to the computer aided design sphere basing on the problem nature, to use the software in creating of technical documentation, for example, drawings and specifications, and to present them. Skills are assessed in Test 2, practical and independent works. Competence, working in group or independently, to use the information technology facilities for the solving of engineering problems and to manage them, as well as to convince others and argue own viewpoint. Competences are assessed in practical and independent works.

Requirements for awarding credit points

Students receive a final mark if they have successfully completed the tasks assigned in practical works and have passed two tests, as well as developed and presented individual tasks. The tasks performed in the practical works have to be presented. Presentation includes short oral report of each finished task as well as answers to the questions about the theoretical aspects of this topic. Theoretical knowledge is assessed as a test. The overall assessment depends on the average assessment of practical works, the average assessment of tests and the average assessment of individual tasks.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Development and presentation of a 2D drawing according to an individual task. Development and presentation of a 3D drawing according to an individual task. Preparation of a video tutorial on inserting standardized products into a drawing from the AutoCAD Mechanical library (for each student on different standardized products from the Content tab). Development and presentation of a drawing related to the topic of the master’s thesis.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

A student will get a successful mark in test if at least 50% of the tasks in the test are properly solved. The student receives high mark if the tasks performed in the practical and independent works are completed, well-designed and the student is able to answer the questions.
