Course abstract

The study course includes theoretical and practical issues in planning and organizing business meetings, seminars, conferences and corporate events in the digital environment and in person.
Developing business relationships with representatives of science and other spheres from various European and other countries, taking into account intercultural differences.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge - on the basic principles of etiquette in planning and organizing formal events, creating business relationship with many different peoples and cultures. Knowledge of conferences, workshops, peculiarities of corporate client service. Understanding of the significance of etiquette in creating the overall image of an individual and an organization’s reputation within organizing business events; Skills - knows how to develop a formal program of activities, structure, arrange the events’ space and create table coverings, subject to the etiquette requirements. The ability to welcome and place the business partners at the negotiation and the banquet table and at a mixed type of receptions, workshops, conferences, taking into account the intercultural differences. Competence - ability to promote a positive interaction in organizing work within business events, in meeting with clients and business partners at the national and international level.

2 Business etiquette and protocol in the context of a Covid-19 pandemic;
3 New ethics in protocol and business etiquette;
4 The interaction of etiquette and personal image in the creation of positive communication;
5 Strategic planning of corporate events;
6 Spatial organization and structuring rules;
7 Floral protocols;
8 Communicative barriers in table coverings;
9 Verbal and non-verbal greetings in business contacts;
10 Placement of participants for formal and mixed receptions;
11 Business breakfast, lunch, dinner;
12 Protocol and flag;
13 Gifts in protocol and business;
14 Women's clothing, accessories in the business environment;
15 Men's clothing, accessories in business environment;

16 Behavioral patterns of business partners from different cultures in business etiquette and protocol.

Requirements for awarding credit points

The final grade is calculated as follows:
• two tests on the course topics successfully completed (at least 4 out of 10) – 80%;

• completed and defended practical assignments – 20%.

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

Independent work is to get acquainted with the specific features of European and world business etiquette and protocol, which influence the behavioral patterns of representatives of different cultures in business communication (video materials, animations in e-studies or suggested in the lectures);

to analyse the results of the developed practical work and to interpret the results and draw conclusions.

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

The final assessment is calculated as follows:
The tests consist of multiple-choice and open-ended questions and are graded on a scale from 0 to 10 points. The number of points available for each question is indicated. A test is considered successfully passed if the student has obtained at least 4 points.
If the average grade of the two tests is below 4 (unsatisfactory), the student must take a third test, which covers all topics included in the course.
Practical assignments are assessed on a pass/fail basis. The course is passed if the student has obtained a positive average grade (at least 4 points) from the two tests and has successfully completed and defended the practical assignments.
