Students acquire knowledge about tourism, its development, goals and tasks. The tourism resources and tourism product, its specification and variety in the context of hospitality are analysed. The normative acts of Latvia and Europe are considered, the policy of the state tourism strategy is evaluated. Different types of tourism have been analysed and their development in Latvia, a specific tourism route has been developed.
Knowledge and understanding of the tourism industry, its goals, tasks, directions and trends in Latvia and the world; on the terminology of tourism, including definitions of concepts and their explanations. (Test work)
Ability to use tourism terminology appropriately; objectively analyse and evaluate the offer of tourism services and make recommendations for improvement of the operation; to make forecasts of the demand for tourism services in the near and far future. (Practical work)
Competences: is able to prepare a tourism service offer according to market requirements. (Tourism route)
1. Introduction. Tourism Law. Specific features of the tourism sector - tourism, accommodation, catering.
2. Tourism policy and management in Latvia and worldwide, their implementers. Internal and external factors affecting the sector, services in the region, Latvia, and the world.
3. History of tourism. United Nations Code of Ethics for Tourism.
4. Tourism product, its specification. Types of tourism services.
5. Motivation and behavior of tourists.
6. Development of a tourism route.
7. Marketing of tourism products.
8. Globalization, sustainability in tourism.
9. Types of tourism, forms of tourism; types of services. Rural tourism in Latvia.
10. Eco-tourism, green certificate, sustainability. Tourism impacts.
11. Nature tourism, its specification.
12. Gastronomic and cultural tourism. Cultural Heritage.
13. Business and event tourism.
14. Recreational and medical tourism.
15. Active and sports tourism.
16. Prehistoric and modern 7 world wonders, most popular destinations, etc.
Part-time extramural studies: All topics specified for full-time studies are accomplished, but the number of contact hours is one-half of the number specified in the calendar.
Successfully completed 2 planned tests, at least 75% participation in practical work, 8 practical tasks completed and successfully defended, during the semester, the tourism route should be worked out and defended during the semester.
A tourism route in the Baltic States is being developed, creating a complex tourism service with accommodation, catering, transport, entertainment, etc. Cost calculations are made for the developed tourism route.
Each test assigns 25% of the final grade. All practical works together make up one mark, which is calculated as average arithmetic and is 25% of the final grade. The tourist route accounts for 25% of the final grade.
The tourist route is evaluated according to two criteria: content (50%) and presentation and presentation style (50%).
The exam mark is calculated as the arithmetic mean of two tests, the average arithmetic of the practical works and tourist route.
