Course abstract

Students acquire knowledge about the history, structure and administration of the LLU and ESAF. Students acquainted with the study program's content and study courses, study methods and skills in the development of study papers and research papers. Acquires study papers, their development and presentation requirements. Obtain skills, use library databases for research work development and study process. Acquiring knowledge about the use of study resources available at LLU, opportunities for studying and exchanging experience abroad.

Learning outcomes and their assessment

Knowledge of Latvia higher education system, expanded knowledge of the acquired specialty, of the contents of study program, of the studying process organization and study a regulatory framework for LUA. Knowledge of LUA, Faculty of Economics and Social Development history and of the structure and management. (Independent work, report, essay, discussions.)
Skills to apply the knowledge acquired in the course to ensure successful process of studies. (Independent work, report, essay, discussions.)
Competence to evaluate the basic principles of the process of studies for starting to study in the chosen study program. (Independent work, report, essay, discussions.)

3. Student's rights and duties.
4. Students' everyday life.
5. The structure of the Latvian University of Agriculture.
6. Faculty of Economics and Society Development.

9. Information search databases. (2h)
10. Moodle Environment.
11. Requirements for the development and presentation of study papers (2h)
12. Instruction for labor protection.
Workshop topics:
1. History of the LUA and the Palace LUA and the castle museums.
2. The history of the ESAF. Economic Information Cabinet Student Self-Government
3. Visit to the LLU Student Club.
4. LUA Fundamental Library
5. Searching for information in BIS ALEPH in the electronic catalog and databases created by the LUA Fundamental Library (2h)
6. E-magazine and e-book databases (2h)
7. Registered user options BIS ALEPH. Search for information and save results, create bibliographies and personal accounts.
8. Introduction to the Moodle Basics of the Environment and its Usage in the LLU (2 lessons)
9. Study papers, conditions for their execution and presentation (2 lessons)
10. Skills needed in external communication units. Meeting with representatives of the profession
11. Instruction for labor protection

Requirements for awarding credit points

Test
Individual work at the scheduled time - 16 points
Activity in discussions during the whole semester - 4 points.
Accumulative assessment of study results - 2 points correspond to one ballet on a 10-point study grade scoring scale

Description of the organization and tasks of students’ independent work

During the studies, the student prepares and submits in printed form during the specified period.3 works:
1. Independent work in the bibliography
2. presentation of the report in accordance with the requirements for the development and execution of study papers;
3. Essay on the choice of the study program and its integration into the LLU study environment

Criteria for Evaluating Learning Outcomes

Independent work is assessed according to the requirements of the quality of compliance with the task. Discussions are judged by engagement and ability to reasonably argue and discuss issues related to study topics.
